Presentation by Doug White: "Abusing Donor Intent"
Using the research he conducted for his most recent book, "Abusing Donor Intent" - which describes the historic lawsuit brought against Princeton University by the children of Charles and Marie Robertson, who contended that the University failed to properly spend their $35 million donation as intended - Doug will provide an overview of the many lessons and opportunities for donors who establish major or endowed gifts and for charities who want to successfully steward those donors.
Doug White is the former director of Columbia University's Master of Science in Fundraising Management program. He has written four books on the nonprofit sector, and is completing his fifth (about Wounded Warrior Project). He also writes a regular column addressing ethical dilemmas. He serves on the governing board of Tiny Spark, an independent news program and podcast that reports on philanthropy, and co-chairs the Walter Cronkite Committee at FoolProof, whose core mission is to teach students to use caution before spending money.
