Giving by Entrepreneurs and Venture Philanthropists

What inspires entrepreneurs to be philanthropic? What are the thought processes and judgements involved that lead venture entrepreneurs to make annual and major gifts, and include legacy gift provisions in their estate plans?
Renée Evangelista is a longtime supporter of PPP-RI, is a nationally recognized estate attorney, and known as an engaging and popular presenter. Renée and her colleagues formed Howland Evangelista Kohlenberg Burnett LLP in March 2014. Renée's practice involves sophisticated estate planning and estate settlement techniques to save clients gift, estate and income taxes, while ensuring that their property passes according to their wishes. Renee is a trustee of numerous private trusts and has routinely served as executor of client estates and manager of limited liability companies. Renee regularly appears in Superior Court representing trustees and trust beneficiaries on accounting actions and trust reformations. Prior to launching HEKB, Renee practiced for twenty-two years at Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP, now Locke Lord, where she served as co-managing Partner of the Providence office for eight years and was a member of the firm's Policy Board and Partnership Nominating Committee.
Joshua Caswell is a PPP-RI board member and Assistant Treasurer. Joshua represents individuals and families on all aspects of estate and tax planning as well as probate and trust administration. His practice focuses on the use of sophisticated estate and tax planning techniques to ensure each client achieves their personal goals for their families and legacy. Joshua previously served as an Attorney at Lawrence & Associates in Warwick, Rhode Island, and Dennis Sullivan & Associates in Wellesley, Massachusetts. During law school, Joshua served as a judicial intern in the Suffolk County Probate and Family Court in Boston, Massachusetts.
